(Me and Eric on Valentine’s Day, going to stuff our faces with Mexican food)
I haven’t done a Wedding Wednesday post in a while because I was honestly just really overwhelmed with everything for a couple of months. I think it as part post-holiday/winter blues and part there’s not way we can afford this blues. But I’m happy to say, I’ve made it out to the other side and we have made so much progress on planning this month.
We’ve gotten our invitations. I opted to go with a print them yourself kit from Brides, because it’s so much cheaper. (Bonus: I got them at Michael’s and was able to use a 40% off coupon). And really, everyone just throws them away anyway, so why spend hundreds on them? I’d rather take that money and put it somewhere else like food costs.
I also found and an awesome deal on Groupon for save-the-dates (plus I had an extra 20% off coupon code) from a website called Zazzle. I had never heard of them, but I’m happy with the options. Now it’s just deciding which design to use. Below are a few examples I created. Excuse the poor quality. I was taking a photo of the computer screen and texting them to Eric while he was working.
We also booked our DJ. We went with Premier Productions in Marietta. So far I’m really happy with them. Their prices seem reasonable and they have been super fast to respond to my e-mails and questions. They will be doing the ceremony and reception music.
And finally, we have decided to do the ceremony at the hotel. We have gone back and forth about where to have the ceremony. I’ve mentioned before that we aren’t religious, so it doesn’t make sense to do it in a church. We thought about doing it in a recently renovated theater, but they couldn’t make any promises because we’d be bumped if a bigger act wanted to use it the same weekend. We thought about doing it at a gazebo in a park, but then worried about the weather.
So, it’s no extra charge to do it at the hotel since we’ve already rented the ballroom for our reception and we have it for the whole day. We will just set up on one side and close it off for the reception and then we’ll have the ceremony on the other side. After the ceremony everyone will have appetizers and drinks while the staff gets the whole room set back up for the reception. I think this is will just be so much easier for everyone involved and it’s ultimately what we wanted to begin with—to have everything in one place.
We’re also working to plan my bridal showers, but I’ll save that for another post.
So, things are looking up for the wedding planning lately and I’m so glad. It seems we may have made it over the half-way slump. Only seven months to go!
