Favorite fall & winter lip colors

I love a good vampy lip color once the air gets crisp. Something about throwing on a sweater, some boots and a dark lip just feels so right once October rolls around. I wanted to share some of my favorites with you in case you might be looking for a new lip color for fall. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your own fall makeup lineup.

The colors are listed in order from left to right in the photo and swatches.

Maybelline Matte Lipstick in the shade “Divine Wine.” This is the perfect deep burgundy shade. I discovered this color about two years ago on a whim. The best part is it’s totally affordable and has really great staying power.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade “Cherries in the Snow.” This is a great pinky red. It’s definitely the brightest of my favorites, but sometimes you need that pop of color once the gray days hit in January. I also LOVE the formula of these lipsticks. They are so easy to apply and the colors are opaque.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Lady Balls.” This is the best classic red color I’ve ever found. And the matte formula of these lipsticks stays put all day. It’s on the pricier side at around $24, but it’s worth it.

Too Face Melted Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Fig.” This is my favorite true plum shade. It’s got a beautiful blue undertone and shows up a great purple color. This formula stays put pretty well (not as well as its matte counterpart), but can bleed and slide around a little if you are eating/drinking.

NYX Epic Ink Lip Dye in the shade “Heartbreaker.” I actually wore this shade on my wedding day, mixed with liner and gloss. It’s a great lip stain. Stains can be tricky to apply, but if you do some research and perfect your technique, they can be the best long-wearing lip color. This shade in a particular is a great magenta color.

What lip formulas and brands are your favorites this season? I’m always looking for suggestions. I hope your fall days are filled with apple cider, pumpkins and cozy sweaters!

Casual Friday No. 1

Hello and Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a great start to 2017. I’ve been busy starting a new job and trying not to be too sad that the holidays are over. I thought I’d start a new series on my blog called “Casual Fridays” where I talk about anything and everything that I’m loving/hating/thinking/doing lately. So, grab some tea or coffee and let’s chat!

Kristin Ess is coming out with a hair care range for Target and it looks great (and affordable!). If you don’t follow her on Instagram, you totally should. She does the most gorgeous beachy waves on Lauren Conrad and Lucy Hale.

Speaking of Lauren Conrad, I jumped for joy when she announced her pregnancy earlier this month. You all know I’m an OG fan dating back to her Laguna Beach days. I can’t wait to follow along with her posts.

One of my favorite Youtubers, Fleur de Force, is doing a lipstick collab with MAC and it looks like the perfect pink shade.

I’m so into the Target Beauty Boxes right now. You get the best, most usable products for $10. They also recently did a $5 box that was awesome. They come out once a month and usually sell out pretty quick.

I tried out Stitchfix for the first time this month. It’s a clothing subscription service where you pay $20 and a stylist sends you a box of five items. You can keep whatever you want (or send it all back). If you do decide to buy, then the $20 fee is deducted from the price. I wasn’t totally crazy about it, though. I found the quality of the clothes wasn’t worth the high price tag for most items. I ended up keeping a scarf, which is really nice quality. I’ve already worn it twice. I signed up to get one more in March to see if maybe the selections are better.

Lastly, Eric and I picked a new wedding date! We will be getting married May 21, 2017! Just five months away. I can’t believe it. So, I’ll be dusting off the old Wedding Wednesday series and doing some updates. We changed our location and some other details that I want to talk about.

Monthly Favorites: November 2015

November favorites

I love reading and watching monthly favorites posts. It’s so fun to see what other people have been loving all month and discovering new products. Below are some of the products I used a lot during November.

Maybelline Fit Me matte and poreless foundation: This foundation makes my skin look so smooth and even. It has pretty full coverage and blends really easily. I think it’s a great foundation for combo skin, which I have. It’s dry in some places, but gets oily throughout the day. I definitely recommend this is you are on a budget and looking for a good drug store foundation.

Maybelline Fit Me concealer: This concealer is so creamy and has great coverage. It’s another product from the Fit Me line that I absolutely love. I’ve been using it for probably two years. It’s another great option for a good quality product on a budget.

Revlon Colorstay liquid eye liner: This eyeliner has such a nice brush. It makes it so easy to put on. The color is also nice and dark. It never loses its pigment even when it’s almost gone. It also lasts all day. It never smudges or comes off until I was my face before bed.

Lush lip scrub in popcorn flavor: This is such a great lip scrub for flaky, dry lips. I use it a couple of times a week to make sure my lips are smooth. One pot lasts forever, too. I think I’ve had mine for almost a year.

Ponds dry skin cream: This is a nice moisturizer if you have really dry skin. My skin is always super dry in the winter, so this helps hydrate it before I put on makeup. It really affordable, too.

Garnier Fructis damage eraser: This is a deep conditioning treatment for damaged hair. My hair tends to be on the dry side anyway, but since I’ve been getting highlights the last year or so it has been extra dry and frizzy. I use this a couple of times a week. I usually try to leave it in for 5-10 minutes in the shower and it makes it a lot easier to style.

What have you guys been loving lately?

An ode to Birchbox

I have loved Birchbox for years. I think I got my first box back in 2012 and I subscribed for a couple of years. When I came to grad school I stopped subscribing just to save a little money, but I recently signed back up and I’m so happy I did.

If you don’t know what Birchbox is, it’s a beauty subscription service that costs $10 a month and is sent to you in the mail. You get between 4-6 deluxe beauty samples in each box ranging from makeup to skincare. The items you get are tailored to your preferences because you fill out a survey when you first sign up and answer a series of questions about your hair, skin tone and beauty style so they make sure to send things that work for you.

I recently got my November box and thought it would be fun to share with you guys. First of all, the box itself was gorgeous. It has a pretty teal and black floral design on it. I was excited about every single product in this box. That isn’t always the case since sometimes you get something that just isn’t something you would use, but I was truly happy to get all of these products. Below is a list of everything I got and links to their full sizes in the Birchbox shop.

  1. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: I discovered this brand through one of my very first Birchboxes and I’ve loved it ever since. They have a great deep conditioner, so I’m excited to try out the dry shampoo.
  2. BioRepublic Skincare Cucumber Breeze Soothing Fiber Mask: I’ve never used a sheet mask before, but I have always wanted to. I’m looking forward to using this one because my skin is already so dry and irritated from the weather and indoor heating.
  3. Davines This is a Relaxing Moisturizing Fluid: This is a cream you put on wet hair before styling. It says it also heat protects the hair, too. I have a hair oil from this brand that I like, so I have high hopes for this.
  4. LOC One & Done Shadow Stick in Night Owl: I think I am most excited about this product because it’s Birchbox’s first makeup line of their own and they collaborated with one of my favorite YouTuber’s Tati Westbrook, or Glamlifeguru, to make it. This color is a pretty deep purple, which is perfect for me because I have green eyes and purple makes green eyes stand out.
  5. theBalm Cosmetics Balm Desert bronzer/blush: This looks like it will be a pretty blush. It’s not too dark, but it’s a deeper color perfect for fall and winter. I’ve gotten other products from theBalm in my Birchboxes before and loved them. My favorite is the MaryLoumanizer highlighter.

The great thing about Birchbox is that you earn point for each dollar you spend in their online shop. You also earn 10 point for each product you review from your box. 100 points equals $10 that you can use just like cash in their online store.

Birchbox also makes an awesome Christmas or birthday gift. I’ve gifted it to my sister and my best friend for Christmas before.

If you want to sign up you can click here.
