Favorite fall & winter lip colors

I love a good vampy lip color once the air gets crisp. Something about throwing on a sweater, some boots and a dark lip just feels so right once October rolls around. I wanted to share some of my favorites with you in case you might be looking for a new lip color for fall. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your own fall makeup lineup.

The colors are listed in order from left to right in the photo and swatches.

Maybelline Matte Lipstick in the shade “Divine Wine.” This is the perfect deep burgundy shade. I discovered this color about two years ago on a whim. The best part is it’s totally affordable and has really great staying power.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade “Cherries in the Snow.” This is a great pinky red. It’s definitely the brightest of my favorites, but sometimes you need that pop of color once the gray days hit in January. I also LOVE the formula of these lipsticks. They are so easy to apply and the colors are opaque.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Lady Balls.” This is the best classic red color I’ve ever found. And the matte formula of these lipsticks stays put all day. It’s on the pricier side at around $24, but it’s worth it.

Too Face Melted Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Fig.” This is my favorite true plum shade. It’s got a beautiful blue undertone and shows up a great purple color. This formula stays put pretty well (not as well as its matte counterpart), but can bleed and slide around a little if you are eating/drinking.

NYX Epic Ink Lip Dye in the shade “Heartbreaker.” I actually wore this shade on my wedding day, mixed with liner and gloss. It’s a great lip stain. Stains can be tricky to apply, but if you do some research and perfect your technique, they can be the best long-wearing lip color. This shade in a particular is a great magenta color.

What lip formulas and brands are your favorites this season? I’m always looking for suggestions. I hope your fall days are filled with apple cider, pumpkins and cozy sweaters!

Fall feelings

I am unusually excited for fall this year. I think it’s because I had such a good summer. I was able to get out and enjoy it so much and I feel totally fulfilled by this season. I think normally I get to the end of summer and wish I had done more. This summer I prioritized my happiness above everything else and it definitely paid off. I had lots of slow mornings, afternoons by the pool and evenings on patios.

So, as August drew to a close I couldn’t help but feel ready for the crisp air of fall. The leaves changing colors. The freshness that comes with a new season. I’m ready to put out my pumpkin candles and hang my fall wreath on the door. I’m ready for big batches of chili and warm drinks. I can’t wait for the first day I get to slip on a cozy sweater, zip up my tall boots over jeans and put on my favorite dark lipstick.

I think I will also always associate fall as a new beginning because of the start of school. I always loved heading back to college in the fall. The feel of the campus. The hope of a new year. Seeing all your friends and how much you all grew and changed over the summer, whether it was spending time abroad, experiencing an awesome internship or just taking a really fun vacation.

Summer has been so good to me and I feel more than ready to close this wonderful chapter and start a new one. Here’s hoping for a nice, long fall that we can all really soak in.
